East Neuk Knits…

Wrap up warm for an amazing experience

The locations

  • Bowhouse, St. Monans.

Bowhouse is our main marketplace, with vendors, AND alpaca, sheep and goats here as part of our celebration of fibre from animal to yarn,

Also based at Bowhouse you’ll find Baern cafe (ground and first floor), Stocks kitchen shop and food vans in the corridor behind the marketplace (much warmer than last year!

There are plenty of loos including two disabled toilets. The site is on one level and is wheelchair accessible.

Transport will run from here to the other sites.

  • Di Gilpin's Studio

Some workshops will be held in Di Gilpin’s studio at the Balcaskie Estate, just opposite Kellie Castle.

Entry has one small step and there is one loo plus further loos upstairs. There are other loos nearby on the ground floor in an adjacent building.

  • Di Gilpin's Wool Hoose

Some workshops will be held at the new Wool Hoose next to Di Gilpin’s studio at the Balcaskie Estate, just opposite Kellie Castle.

Entry to the workshop is on the ground floor and leads to a wonderful beamed learning space. The toilets, including accessible loos are downstairs in this building.

  • Scottish Fisheries Museum

Some workshops and talks over the weekend are based at the Scottish Fisheries Museum in Anstruther. They will be in the Education Room on the first floor, where there is stair, slope and ramp access. There are toilets including disabled loos here. And a cafe!

  • Kellie Castle

Kellie is a stunning castle with 14th century origins, rescued in the 19th century by the artistic Lorimer family.

In the Castle Undercroft, we’ll have workshops on Friday and our Children’s Knitting workshops on Saturday. You can enjoy guided tours and the tea room all weekend.

The castle has a toilet building by the gardens, accessible by a level path.

Transport will be available from Bowhouse; The castle entrance is just opposite Comielaw Farm and Di Gilpin Studios (a useful landmark if lost!)

  • The Loft - Ardross Farm Event Space

The Loft here at Ardross will be set up as ‘The Meeting Place’. Gather with friends, find a quieter place to sit and knit for a while, have a hot drink and lovely cake.

Why not pop into the wonderful farm shop whilst you are there?

Please the event space is on the first floor, with entrance via an external staircase.

  • Dreel Halls Anstruther

We will have a social event at The Dreel Halls on Thursday evening. This will be a gentle knit night with a difference: We’ll be showing two special films as part of the evening inspired by the kvöldvaka tradition of knitting or mending as we listen to stories on a winter’s evening.

We have the pleasure of a short film originally produced for the Venice Biennale which features Di Gilpin - it is about making, whale song, memory and remembrance; we also will show Trad Treasures, a film about the life and wrk of Jimmy Hutchison - weaver and Gaelic singer - you will find Jimmy as the Handloom Weaver in the marketplace on Friday and Saturday, but he will be introducing the film (and singing) on Thursday evening.

There will be hot drinks and cakes available, and plenty of time to craft together and talk.

  • St Monans Auld Kirk

At the end of last year, the St Monans community took ownership of this iconic building in the Fife landscape.

It seems fitting that we celebrate the fishing and community traditions of the Auld Kirk to host most of our talks here, as well as our Friday evening social.

We will also have a fun fashion show on Friday, where you can see new garments and accessories from designers features at ENK - and come and walk the show yourself in pieces you are proud of!
