FAQs

Who are you?

We are Di, Sheila, Kirsty and Ali from Di Gilpin Ltd, Susan from The Journal of Scottish Yarns and Alison from Knitrospective. We maintain our own fibre related businesses in yarn production, design and publications. We are all passionate about sharing craft and building community.

Why is the festival being held in November?

This is a relatively quiet time both for farmers, yarn producers and the local tourism industry. Holding East Neuk Knits in late November provides a welcome boost for these sectors. The microclimate in the East Neuk is generally mild at this time of year, and averages a kindly 9 degrees in November.

How are you working with vendors?

For this first year, we have invited a selection of vendors to take part in order to provide a range of stalls at the festival which represent different kinds of yarn, accessories and gifts. In future years we will have an application process. Please register for our newsletter if you are interested in this.

How are you working with the community?

We are involving Fife farmers, food producers and heritage organisations in building East Neuk Knits. This will continue to build over time as we develop our collaboration. The local community of makers are part of creating the Drifter Herring displays, volunteering and guiding. We also have a craft and cake trail of nearby wonderful places to visit and support.

How are you working ethically?

We are a collaborative partnership committed to the values of democracy, anti-discrimation, autonomy, education, sustainability and community.

Some of the ways we demonstrate this is through

  • equal partnership in our business

  • providing opportunities in education

  • free and reduced cost workshop places for those experiencing hardship

  • free vendor places for those from minority ethnic groups where past discrimination should be redressed

How can I find more accessibility information?

Our venue page has basic information about levels for access and toilets. You will also find a link where you can also click through to each venue and their accessibility information directly. Further images of where toilets are located and details of doorways / corridors etc will be added to this page in the autumn.
